To keep the page searchable anyway, WipePDF automatically re-recognises the remaining text (OCR) and places it invisibly back on top. The only cost: these pages get a bit larger than the original – a small trade-off for real, guaranteed redaction.

Is WipePDF free?

Yes. You can redact as many PDFs as you like, free of charge, with no account and no watermark.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Redaction runs entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device and is never stored anywhere.

What is the difference to a black box drawn over the text?

A black box only covers the text visually – the text underneath stays copyable and recoverable. WipePDF instead rebuilds marked pages as an image, so the content is actually removed.

Does the redacted PDF stay searchable?

Yes. WipePDF automatically re-recognises the remaining text via OCR after redaction and places it invisibly back on the page. The file gets a bit larger as a result, but stays searchable.
